about whole circle studio
Whole Circle Studio was founded in 2015 by Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill and specializes in the design of custom modern quilts, patterns, surface design illustration, and products.
Sheri is a designer who creates work that is both decorative and functional, blurring the divisions between art, design, and craft. She’s driven to challenge the conventional notion of what a quilt is and looks like while honoring and contributing to both the rich tradition and future of the craft.
After earning a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the University of Connecticut, Sheri led creative teams to create award winning identities, products and
environments for over 20 years prior to launching Whole Circle Studio. She worked in small graphic design studios, a dot com, and led the exhibit design team at a children’s museum. With the help of books and the Internet, she taught herself how to sew in her late 30s and discovered a passion for designing and making quilts. This exploration led her to pursue new opportunities that would allow her to be creative and work with her hands and start her own studio business.
As a trained and practicing graphic designer, Sheri’s work starts with a concept and research shapes the design. Her work is inspired by her everyday life and experiences. She finds inspiration in shapes found in nature and everyday objects. Much like creating a puzzle, Sheri focuses on how both regular and irregular geometric shapes fit together to create bold imagery.
Sheri’s quilts have gained international recognition, including awards from QuiltCon, International Quilt Festival, Quilt Week/Paducah, the Quilt Alliance, and the Modern Quilt Guild. Additionally, her work has been featured at art centers and galleries around the country. Her work has been included in books and publications such as Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century, Modern Patchwork and International Quilt Festival Scene. She self-publishes and distributes her quilt patterns, which can be found at quilt shops worldwide and online. Sheri enjoys empowering and inspiring others to enjoy the process through giving presentations and teaching internationally.
As an active member of the modern quilt community, Sheri collaborates with leading industry organizations such as Aurifil, Art Gallery Fabrics, Oliso, Ruby Star Society/Moda Fabrics, and The Warm Company. She designed, created and filmed two segments for Fresh Quilting, a public television show co-produced by the Modern Quilt Guild and KS Productions. Sheri also filmed an hour-long online course in collaboration with the Missouri Star Quilt Company.
Sheri works from her home studio in the suburbs of New Haven, Connecticut—a hop, skip and jump away from New York City.
